General use rules

Safety is LBC’s number one priority. It is important to keep in mind that we are a lake facility which means dark water, docks and boating activity. These rules are designed to help us operate from the safest position as possible. We ask your cooperation in making sure that children you bring to the club understand the rules and the necessity of following instructions from the lifeguards. We hope that in reading through the rules, you will agree that they help the club run in the safest manner possible.

  1. Members must sign in and give their names to the gate staff before entering the club.

  2. Children under the age of TEN (10) must be accompanied and actively supervised by an adult or a responsible baby sitter.

  3. Running & Games involving thrown objects are not permitted in the club –  especially not on the docks.

  4. Only lifeguards are allowed in: guard chairs, towers, guardhouse, and front gatehouse.

  5. Private and Club property is the responsibility of each member and guests. LBC has no responsibility for private property that is lost, stolen, or damaged.

  6. All listening & viewing devices (I-pods, CDs, radio, TV) are permitted ONLY with the use of headphones.

  7. Pets are not permitted at the club.

  8. Smoking (including vaporizers) is not permitted at the club.

  9. Weapons, firearms (including toys), or firecrackers are not permitted at the club.

  10. No alcoholic beverages are permitted at the club.

  12. Small shade umbrellas are allowed.  However, no stakes are permitted in the grass.

  13. No Parking on Laurelcrest Lane – both sides. Parking on the lane could result in a ticket or a tow.

PLEASE REFER TO THE CLUB’S ENFORCEMENT POLICY (BELOW) FOR APPLICABLE PROCEDURES AND CONSEQUENCES, INCLUDING DISCIPLINARY ACTION.

Rules of Water

Personal flotation devices are not permitted. Per the American Red Cross: “These devices can suddenly shift position, lose are or slip out from underneath the child, putting the child at risk for drowning. They may also falsely increase a child’s sense of confidence, causing them to venture into water that is too deep.”

  1. Swim testing is mandatory for members and guests under 12 years old; since safety is our first consideration we ask for your cooperation and understanding regarding swim tests.

    1. A strong swimming stroke, strength, competence, and confidence will determine if a swimmer has passed the swim tests

    2. Each year some very young children want to move on to other areas of the club – Dog paddling is not an adequate standard to permit children beyond the Beach or Second areas of the club

    3. Lifeguards may ask a child to re-swim any test, at any time, if they question the child’s swimming ability and competence.

  2. All swimmers must stay in designated swim areas

    1. The Beach Area (inside the first rope) is for non-swimmers or those who have not yet passed a swimming test and must be accompanied by an adult.

    2. The second Area (between the first and second ropes) is for persons who have swum one lap witnessed and approved by a lifeguard, and have received a signed certificate.  See lifeguards for requirements for passing “1’s” swim test (e.g. no dog paddling, American stroke with side breathing, etc…).  Those who have not passed their “1’s” must be accompanied by an adult in a one-to-one ratio.

    3. The third Area (from the second rope to the dock end, plus the diving area) is for persons who have completed a three-lap test witnessed and approved by a lifeguard, and received a signed certificate.  See lifeguards for requirements for passing “3’s” swim test.

    4. Tower (Top) and 2nd Platform: Those who climb either tower are expected to go off it. Don’t climb up until you are ready to go off.  If you climb down from either ladder you will be “beached” for up to one hour.

      1. You must have accomplished a seven lap swim test or be 12 years old to go off top.

      2. Only four (4) people are permitted on the top of the tower at one time

      3. Only one person is allowed on the ladder at a time

      4. Make certain that the water below is clear before going off.

      5. One person is allowed to jump off the tower at a time.

  3. Diving is only permitted from the diving boards and diving tower.

    1. All persons using the diving boards and/or tower are required to dive or jump straight off and swim directly back to the ladders.

    2. Only one person at a time is permitted on the diving boards, slide – including their ladders.

  4. A long blast on a whistle by a lifeguard means “emergency.” When a whistle blows long, all persons are required to evacuate the swimming and diving areas and go directly to the beach or lawn.

ENFORCEMENT POLICY

If any of the above rules are broken, or if, in the reasonable belief of on-duty staff, a member or guest is likely to be a nuisance to others or a danger to themselves or others, the staff is authorized to take such action as they reasonably believe is necessary to maintain a safe and family friendly environment. The first step taken by on-duty staff will be to inform the person of the rules and how best to comply. If repeated violations occur, the person may be asked to leave the Club for a time period consistent with the seriousness of the infraction. The parents of children who are having continuing difficulties observing rules will be notified and requested to intervene. Members and guests must follow the instructions of on-duty staff and shall not reprimand or abuse any staff member in the performance of their duties. Any complaint relating to staff implementation of these rules shall be brought to the attention of the General Manager and/or the Board of Trustees (LBCbusiness@comcast.net) and shall not be made directly to the staff member. Any disciplinary action necessary because of a violation of these rules shall be referred to and at the discretion of the Board of Trustees, and could result in a loss of membership.
